Welcome to the Art Room
Welcome to the art room. My name is Mrs. Joan Dulcey and this is my 16th year teaching at St. Peter’s. I have my BA from Temple University and am currently working toward Maryland Teacher certification. Some of you may know that I am a straw artist. I love working with all kinds of mediums including other fiber arts.
I have been married for 33 years to my husband, Joe and we have two grown daughters and three beautiful grandchildren.
I teach art to Kindergarten through 8th grade. Each class meets with me once a week but the times vary according to the grade level. Kindergarten and First will meet with me for a half hour (with half the class for more individual attention). Second and third meet with me for 40 minutes. Fourth and fifth meet with me for 1 hour and middle school meets with me for 80 minutes.
We do a lot of fun projects in all mediums and also some art appreciation. I also try to coordinate art projects with the other subjects for complete learning experiences.
There will be no after school art club this year, however, I will have a club during the middle school club time each week. During the year if a need for artists comes up to do scenery for plays etc. I will probably meet with some students after school to accomplish these projects.

The art room is off to a busy start. The eighth graders have made a star ornament each out of wheat for the Hospice tree. Seventh grade is learning to draw in perspective and sixth grade is learning how to make optical illusions. Our fifth grade is learning about color values and has just started a project on African mud cloth. Third and fourth grade are working on pictures for the County First Bank art show with the theme, “Nature’s paintbrush, the beauty of the bay”. Second grade is learning about balance in art and making a paper quilt square. First grade is learning about all the lines they can use in drawing and how they can make “odd” animals like they read about in their reading program. Kindergarten is working on projects such as caterpillars, owls and octopuses which start with C and O which they are learning about with Mrs. Kim.
Art club is busy making an gels and stars for the hospice tree. Since 5th grade was disappointed that art club was not being offered to 5th grade this year. I did add a recess time art club on Thursdays for the 5th grade. Each week, 10 fifth graders may sign up to do art of their choice during their recess.
If your child is one of the few people who are not finished with the current art project and I feel it is time to move on, then I will be sending the project home to complete. Make sure when you are looking through your child’s book bag, make sure you talk to your child about their work. Ask them what they are learning in art and its always good to display their work. For special projects, you can even buy inexpensive frames to display them better. Your child will be so proud of their work if you show an interest.
