Scope

Traffic accidents are a primary reason the commute from one place to another in Charles County is slow and inefficient. After an accident it is normal for other drivers to reduce the speed of their vehicle to look at the scene. When traffic slows to look at the accident it adds to a backup which causes additional backups. These backups can result in additional accidents because of the stop and go flow.

Data Analysis

As part of the research effort by the St. Peter’s STEM Club we will make contact with the Charles County Sherriff’s Office and pose the following questions. Once the information has been received we will put this into a data table and post it to this web page.
  • How many accidents, by month, have occurred in Charles County in a consecutive 2 year period? Initially we would like to use 2008 and 2009 but if the data is not available for 2009 then we will use 2007 and 2008.
  • How many of these accidents, by month, were fatalities?
  • What type of roadway did these accidents occur?
  • What was the average amount of time required to clear the scene of the accident?
  • What is the number of accidents, by month, were caused by a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol or drugs?
  • What is the number of accidents, by month, that were caused by distracted driving?
  • By month, what were the type of cars and color of cars involved in the accidents?
  • By month, what was the sex of those involved in these accidents?
  • By month, what was the age range of those involved in these accidents?
